About
My background is in the theatre, where I always found joy in the process of finding harmony between my character and myself. I loved spending hundreds of hours rehearsing, breaking down and reconfiguring my identity into bits, mixing them with pieces from a script, and then introducing that character into their universe.
I find that same feeling of joy in the simple act of cutting and pasting paper. Both collage and theatre require the artist to pull together materials that already have identity, and purpose. It's the artist's job to pare that material down and rebuild it into something new altogether.
For my collage work, I focus mainly on creating stories with one main character (mostly women) experiencing joy despite the big wide world, and despite herself. In one way or another, each character is free to harness their mind as a tool of resistance.
Sometimes not, though. Sometimes I just think it's fun to turn a cat into the Queen of England or stick a shark in a pool of children. Whatever.
I currently live in Austin, Texas with my husband, 3 kids and one black cat.
